This has been my area of interest because I always listen to nurses explaining their experiences during drug administration as sometimes having near misses or having forgotten a particular guideline making them afraid this might adversely affect the patient and their reputations when it is determined they were responsible. It is a very sensational topic, and despite the adverse consequences such errors cause, there is a brighter side. These errors are preventable when the correct measures are put in place to address the various factors causing them. With the advancement in technology, several applications have been developed, which has enhanced operations within health facilities by enhancing workflow, quality and safety of care the patients receive. Incorporating electronic medication administration with barcoding has enhanced efficiency in healthcare, especially in preventing medication errors associated with medication administration, thereby enhancing patient safety and outcomes. I used a thorough research process to help me develop detailed, reliable and accurate information regarding the research topic. I first determined the problem the research purposed to address, which was the medication errors occurring during medication administration. I then reviewed relevant literature which I believed contained the most relevant, accurate and updated information regarding the research topic. I then developed objectives that I expected the research articles to address appropriately.
I then went ahead to analyze the information provided by the various articles, which enabled me to come up with suitable recommendations on the way forward on how organizations can incorporate and implement this new technology into their care practice. I wanted to use a database that was reliable and would provide accurate information regarding the study topic. The two databases were PubMed and Wolters Kluwer. I ensured that the authors of the articles were recognized, with undoubted qualifications. I also ensured the publications were up to date by setting the range of search to be within the last five years. To narrow down my search, I used keywords such as medication errors, electronic medication administration, medication safety and barcoding,
