Introduction
In various countries across the globe, nontraditional healthcare practices have become increasingly useful to either support or replace conventional medicine. These nontraditional healthcare practices consist of various treatment methods, which medical doctors do not generally apply. The methods involved in this form of treatment involve identifying ways of working with natural energy, body systems and balances within the body to enhance healing (Zank et al., 2019). Various cultures support the use of nontraditional healthcare practices across the globe. This paper explores different popular nontraditional health care practices and consists of three sections. The first section compares the nontraditional healthcare practices among three different cultures. The second section describes the significance of these practices in providing holistic and quality health care. Lastly, the third section outlines nontraditional health care options within my area and why there is an increasing number of individuals using them over traditional medical practices.

Nontraditional Health Care Practices in Different Cultures
As aforementioned, various cultures support the use of nontraditional healthcare practices. These practices, however, differ across different cultures, hence the need to understand these differences and determine how they impact wellness among their people. This section, however, focuses on three cultures, the Chinese, Filipino and Finnish, as the three cultures have significant differences from one another. Within the Chinese culture, acupuncture is one of the famous nontraditional medical practices (Karst & Li, 2019). This practice has been featured in various TV shows and movies, enhancing its fame. This practice involves the insertion of long thin needles into what is regarded as the meridians, located on key areas of the body. Once inserted, the meridians are thought to govern the various body functions. By manipulating them, one can improve health and provide help for chronic ailments that commonly affect a greater portion of the population (Karst & Li, 2019).
The nontraditional health practice among the Filipinos that is the centre of focus is the hilot. Although considered similar to a massage, it is different from other mainstream massages, for instance, the Shiatsu (Fajardo & Pansacola, 2017). A manghihilot is a masseuse that combines massage oil and aromatherapy to ensure that the massage achieves the desired outcomes. The effects of this practice are diverse, and some of the effects include; relieving various heart ailments, arthritis and other similar conditions (Fajardo & Pansacola, 2017). The common nontraditional healthcare practice in the Finnish culture is using saunas to improve health. This technique relieves the body of various ailments by removing body toxins as an individual sweat and heating of the body. Despite being considered by other countries as a form of relaxation and not curative, this practice has also spread. It is acceptable in some countries such as Sweden as an effective healthcare practice. Therefore, it is worth noting that the various nontraditional healthcare practices are rooted in the belief systems and culture of their origin. They, however, do not replace the existing actual medical practices.
Importance of These Practices in Providing Holistic and Quality Health Care
The various nontraditional healthcare practices across different cultures do not replace the conventional treatment methods. However, they supplement them to facilitate patient wellness. The practice of acupuncture in the Chinese culture is regarded as a medical practice and is often advertised as an actual medical practice. Thousands of people continue engaging in this practice due to the long establishment of this practice on their history and the cultural attachment people have developed towards it within the country. The practice is believed to improve health and protect the body against chronic ailments.
However, studies by different scholars have regarded the practice as a hindrance rather than promoting and improving medical care among the different population members. The practice of hilot among the Filipinos has also been identified as not a replacement to actual medical treatment methods. Therefore, it is conserved as a way of relieving pain among those suffering from chronic pain and making them feel better. The use of saunas within Finland has also been considered a way of keeping the body active and free of toxins. However, it is not considered superior to care from professional medical providers and rather a supplement for enhanced health outcomes.
Nontraditional Health Care Options within My Area
There are quite a several nontraditional healthcare practices within my area. Examples include several clinics selling herbal medicine, for instance, the Health line Herbal Clinic. Besides, there are several saunas located in the various gyms. They are, however, not considered as important as is seen in Finland. A few numbers of individuals within my area utilize nontraditional health practices. For example, those who go to the gym or take these remedies are often concerned about their well-being. The reasons contributing to such low utilization of these nontraditional healthcare practices could be the larger proportion of young individuals within the area, who are less likely to have chronic conditions than the elderly. These nontraditional health practices are likely to be higher among the aged population than the young, indicating that age is an important determinant for the use of these nontraditional health practices.
Reasons Why the Number of People Using Nontraditional Health Care Options Is Rising
There are several reasons why individuals would prefer nontraditional healthcare options. A possibly obvious reason is the increasing cost of modern medicine, making it unaffordable to some individuals (Chiu, 2016). These individuals, therefore, tend to incline towards the alternative methods for them to get better. The other possible reason is chronic pain, for instance, in arthritis, where patients consider the modern medicine given to them as not providing adequate relief for the pain. In desperation and to feel better, they pursue nontraditional health care practices to relieve them of their pain (Chiu, 2016). The other reason for the rise in the number of individuals using nontraditional health care practices could be the increasing number of naturalists, who generally prefer the natural means of treating ailments rather than the artificial methods. They tend to turn to herbal medicine to manage their ailments (Chiu, 2016). This, however, is connected to poor health outcomes since despite having health-boosting characteristics, these nontraditional health care practices do not provide effective means of treating some of the serious medical conditions.

Conclusion
In summary, various cultures have nontraditional healthcare practices, which are upheld and highly regarded within that particular culture. The practices are highly regarded due to the perceived health benefits. They, however, should not be used as a replacement to modern medicine in the treatment of all medical ailments. They should, however, be integrated into normal care delivery and used to complement modern medicine to ensure that patients maximally benefit from them and achieve better health outcomes and improved quality of life.
